If you live in the Charleston area and are looking for a new fall tradition, Legare Farms on Johns Island is a great choice. Our family has been paying a visit to the farm for several years and it is now a tradition we look forward to. What is so wonderful about Legare Farms?
A little backstory. Legare Farms has been a family run farm since 1725. You read that correctly. 1725! Still in operation today and run by the current generation of family members, Legare Farms not only provides an awesome fall outing for families and groups, but so much more! Now, they even have an on-site store with jams, jellies, salsas, and more. You can even buy beef, pork, and eggs!
We always head out to the farm mid-October to get our pumpkins that way they will be nice and firm when we go to carve them. The farm offers guests a wax myrtle maze, hayrides, a Make-Your-Own Scarecrow station, playground, petting zoo, horse rides, opportunity to feed the fish and turtle in the pond, shoot ears of corn from the corn cannon, and search for gems in the gem mine. In addition to all that, they also have a concession stand and of course, the wonderful pumpkin patch. If you don’t want to walk in the patch, they have pumpkins that have already been picked waiting for you to purchase!
We love visiting Legare Farms every year and we appreciate everything they do to make our experience a blessed one. Plus, it’s always nice to know that you are helping a family keep a local farm in business after hundreds of years.
