I chose to review this book because I thought it would be a great book to discuss with my husband, as we have a young daughter. As a woman, and as a daughter who had a wonderful father, I know how important my husband’s role is in helping our daughter learn what to look for in the future. Dr. Kevin Leman explains in his book that “A dad is the one who teaches a daughter about what a male is all about.”.
“If Dad is a loving, steady, balanced man in his approach with his daughter, she will have a sense of security, love, and trust in her relationships with men.” That is a huge responsibility, but it is also vitally important in raising a confident and secure young woman.
Dr. Kevin Leman speaks from experience, he has four daughters and one son. He understands how his actions and behaviors have impacted his daughters and he uses his experiences to teach dads how to be a great role model. One thing I was hoping I would read more about was the role of the father given by God. While the book is full of very helpful information for dads who are puzzled with how to raise their daughters, it tends to read more like a human psychology book. I expected this book to be a faith-based look at Christian parenting, but it wasn’t. That being said, this book is a valuable tool for any man who wants to be a better father to his daughter.
