Author Carol McAdams Moore has written a really good devotional that is perfect for young boys who are of tween age. My son is just about there, and he really liked the format of the book and the Biblical content.
Dare You 2 Open this Book is a 90 day devotional that is filled with activities. These activities allow your child to learn scripture and retain the content. Each of the daily devotions provide the truths of the Bible and how to apply them to daily life. The sections called ‘What if…?’ poses a scenario that your child should think about, reflect on, and then answer.
I will say that as much as my son liked this book, both we found one thing we were not crazy about. It seems to be written for the stereotypical young boy who likes or find gross things funny. Maybe my son is just different, but calling Jonah a dude and saying he was covered in ‘fish vomit’, wasn’t something he cared to read about. I think it is possible to show humor without being gross, and my son agrees.
Overall, Dare You 2 Open this Book is at its core a great devotional and would be a good choice for a young boy.
