I first heard of Sheila Walsh through her music and her television show that aired during the time I gave my life to Christ. Her words always had a way of reaching me. Now, many years later, she is known for being an integral part of the Women of Faith conference and a best-selling author with more than 4 million books sold. She is nothing but honest about her triumphs and struggles and always uses her experiences to reach people for Christ.
Her latest book, The Storm Inside, attempts to show women that even thought they may feel caught up in chaos and as a result, have become a part of the chaos, that does not define who they are. As women, we are not what we feel. We belong to a risen King, we are daughters of the Most High and that is the truth of who we are. As women, what we do often becomes our identity, but that is not who we are in God’s eyes.
We are chosen. We are loved.
As women, we often carry around huge emotional weight from experiences in our past that have now been woven into our view of ourselves. Sheila shares stories from women she has met during her time in ministry, as well as her own stories, to show the toll that chaos can have on a woman’s life. She also offers hope. With every story, there is truth. The inescapable truth that God loves us more than we can ever imagine. That our worth is not based on what has happened to us. We can be free from the labels we have placed on ourselves or labels others have placed on us, simply because of who we belong to.
There are so many things I love about this book. It is brutally honest. It references stories from the Bible and is filled with verses for women to memorize and hold close through the storms of life. It doesn’t say life will be easy. In fact, at the end of every chapter, there are thought provoking exercises that will make you have to deal with certain issues that have been weighing you down. Some chapters are easier than others. It depends on what you have been through and how much you are willing to let the words sink in.
If you are feeling like life is swirling in a twister around you, or that life has taken its toll on you, I highly recommend this book!
