Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are.
John 17:11
Unity. Oneness. Those words make you think of a marriage, don’t they? They should because that is what God intended for marriages to have and maintain. When you were married, as it says in the Bible, two became one. Genesis 2:24 says, “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.’ What does is truly mean to become one?
You know how it is. There is a big decision to be made and you are both on opposite sides. It’s very unsettling. You definitely do not feel like you are on the same page. I think about our children and the times where they are trying to divide and conquer us. They may not be thinking that way, but their actions definitely prove otherwise. Every child does the same thing. If Daddy doesn’t give the “correct” answer, then try Mommy. It’s a natural way of solving a problem. That is exactly the time to put your oneness and unity into action. You need to provide a united front. By yourself, you are easily swayed, together you are stronger. The same holds true for your marriage. When you and your spouse are united on issues, answers and life directions, life tends to fall into place. Sometimes it’s not easy, but the feeling of being part of a partnership is amazing!
Today’s dare.
Isolate one area of division in your marriage, and look on today as a fresh opportunity to pray about it. Ask the Lord to reveal anything in your own heart that is threatening oneness with your spouse. Pray that He would do the same for them. And if appropriate, discuss this matter openly, seeking God for unity.
At the end of the day, answer these questions:
1. Did the Lord open your eyes to anything new that might be giving fuel to this point of disagreement?
2. How do you intend to respond?
3. What do you hope to see God do in your spouse as well?
Congratulations! You have completed Day 30! Tomorrow’s dare is Love and Marriage.
