Love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth.
1 Corinthians 13:6
Think about your life.
When your husband succeeds, meaning he wins an award, promotion or comes home from a golf outing a winner, how much do you celebrate that? I bet you think it’s a big deal and congratulate him.
Now think about times when your husband gives the kids a bath, gathers the family together, goes out the door for work to return exhausted many hours later, how much do you celebrate that? Or, do you even celebrate it at all? Many times I think we tend to forget what our spouses do day in, day out and chalk it up to what is expected. But God celebrates it and so should we. Ouch.
See, when your husband does all those “husbandly” (I don’t think that’s a word!) things, we might appreciate it inside, but do we ever tell our husbands how proud we are of them? I know when my husband has gotten a new job, I am the first to be excited and congratulate him. When he’s honoring God and acting in obedience to Him by providing for the family, helping raise the children and trying to be the best husband to you, those are the things that really should be celebrated. That is what is important. The world will tell us that what is important are the material things, the gifts that our husbands bring home, the paycheck every month, but it is a lie. Everything we hear throughout the day encourages us to follow another way, the way that does not lead to righteousness. Everywhere we look, we are being lured away. It’s part of living in a fallen world, but it doesn’t mean you have to give in to it. You can choose to live a righteous life and to celebrate when your husband is standing up in those times and doing what brings glory to God.
Today’s dare.
Find a specific, recent example when your spouse demonstrated Christian character in a noticeable way. Verbally commend them for this at some point today.
At the end of the day, answer these questions:
1. What example did you choose to recognize?
2. How many other ways could you celebrate their growth in godliness?
3. How could you encourage them to persevere in it?
Congratulations! You have completed Day 34! Tomorrow’s dare is Love is Accountable.
