Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.
Ruth 1:16
Well here we are. Day 40, the last day of my series based on The Love Dare. It is my prayer that you have made the entire journey with me, or at the very least, have participated in some of it. If you made it through the entire series, congratulations! I am hoping that changes have been made, hearts have been opened and marriages have been restored.
Today is a day of solidifying what you have been building on the past forty days. Today is the day to renew your covenant. Yes, I used the word covenant, not commitment. If you notice in the Bible, God did not say to Noah that He has made a commitment to never flood the Earth like he had done. No, God made a covenant. A covenant is meant to be a binding, lifelong agreement.
When you and your spouse were wed, the rings symbolized not only your vows, but the unending covenant binding the two together. It was supposed to mean something. It was supposed to be above any other contract, commitment or bond in your lives. It IS special. The key to a covenant is that God needs to be the center of it. Without God, a covenant becomes merely a contract, a non-binding agreement. How many times do people break contracts and think nothing of it? All the time. A marriage is not supposed to be like that. It is not disposable, or it shouldn’t be. Our society tries to make us think that divorce is as natural as breathing and when we’re not happy with our spouse or relationship, it’s ok to walk out and not try to work it out. When I drive around my town I see signs everywhere, “Divorce: $125”. Is that what God intended when He created us? That we would get to the point where it costs less to divorce each other than it is to buy a new television? It grieves our Lord. He has given us an instruction manual in the Bible. His Son died so that we could live, yet we turn our backs on Him and try to be in a relationship with another imperfect human, without seeking Him first.
Today, enter into a new covenant. One that is binding and unbreakable. Show your husband God’s love, through you. Love him like you never have before.
Today’s dare.
Write out a renewal of your vows and place them in your home. Perhaps if appropriate, you could make arrangements to formally renew your wedding vows before a minister and with family present. Make it a living testament to the value of marriage in God’s eyes and the high honor of being one with your mate.
At the end of the day, answer these questions:
1. What has God revealed to you during the Love Dare?
2. How have your views of your marriage changed?
3. How committed are you to God and to your spouse?
4. Who can you share this with as a testimony?
Feel free to print out the following image and post it on your refrigerator as a constant reminder of what you have done today. God bless!
