The holidays are almost here and it’s time to start planning the Christmas celebrations! One of my go-to recipes to serve as an appetizer at holiday parties is this creamy, tangy blue cheese dip. It has been a tradition in my family for over 20 years, ever since having the original version at a restaurant in New York.
I’ve tweaked the recipe over the years, but you can adjust ingredients to your preferences. Moderation is key during the indulgent holiday season! The smooth, pungent flavor of the blue cheese pairs perfectly with crunchy crackers or fresh vegetables. It makes for an elegant yet easy Christmas appetizer.
My favorite way to enjoy this dip is with chilled wedges of lettuce or carrot and celery sticks for scooping. The cool, crisp lettuce contrasts beautifully with the rich dressing. I first tried in a salad and was wowed by the combination of flavors and textures. You can of course, go the route of buffalo wings and blue cheese because that can never be a bad thing!
Feeling hungry as you read this? Here’s the catch: though you’ll want to dig in right away, patience pays off! Allow the dip to refrigerate overnight before serving for the best, most well-developed flavors. I know it’s difficult to wait when a delicious appetizer is calling your name. But trust me, your guests will thank you for the extra time when they get to enjoy the incredible taste from allowing the ingredients to become even more flavorful.

Notes
To dress up your appetizer, put a few sprigs of rosemary in and around the dish or mason jar. Sprinkle some cranberries or place slices of red peppers around it as well to give it that festive red and green color. Whatever you decide to do, this recipe will be the hit of the party!
